JOB GOAL:
This position will be responsible for the overall implementation of the district’s vehicle maintenance and repair program.
Required Qualifications:
• Appropriate mechanical training and relevant work experience
• Licensed School Bus Driver, CDL class A or B (Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake Endorsements)
• Comprehensive knowledge of air brakes and engines (propane and gasoline)
Examples of Responsibilities:
• Manage the overall maintenance, repair, and condition of all school vehicles.
• Perform vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Assist in the scheduling and preparation of driver and vehicle state inspections.
• Assume the full responsibilities and duties of a substitute school bus driver as directed by the Director of Transportation.
• Snowplow district facilities.
• In accordance with the established system of authorized procurement, maintain inventory of parts and supplies, inclusive of the ordering of replacement items and the scheduling of required vehicle services.

MONTVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR

JOB GOAL:
To oversee the operations of the district’s transportation program and ensure the safe and efficient transportation through contracted carriers in accordance with State law and Board of Education policy for all eligible pupils; and coordinate special routes, and field and athletic trips, using district-owned vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma required; Baccalaureate degree preferred.
2. Valid Commercial New Jersey Driver’s License, endorsement preferred.
3. Experience in school transportation preferred, with knowledge of State laws and regulations
governing pupil transportation.
4. Experience with the daily operations of a school transportation department, including route
scheduling, fleet maintenance and cost containment strategies.
5. New Jersey School Transportation Supervisor Certificate required.
6. Strong computer and data system skills; experience with transportation routing programs
preferred.
7. Excellent written and oral communication with strong interpersonal skills.
8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

ASSISTANT COORDINATOR OF SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
OFFICE OF PUPIL TRANSPORTATION

Under direction, assists with planning, organizing, directing and coordinating school transportation programs, services, operations and staff; performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Six (6) years of professional experience involving the organization, planning, direction and scheduling of mass passenger transportation services, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
OR
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional supervisory experience.
NOTE: “Professional experience” refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession’s principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one’s own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
LICENSE:
Appointees may be required to possess School Transportation Supervisor Certificate issued by the Rutgers University Center for Government Services.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR

THE POSITION:
The candidate will:
-Conform to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
-Maintain safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations.
-Be the primary contact person for all district bus drivers and bus aides; Assist in scheduling bus drivers & aides; coordinate driver/aide substitutions and/or route modifications.
-Assist in the administration of the contractual transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
-Maintain all district owned equipment & develop plans for preventative maintenance, including vehicles not used for transportation.
-Act as liaison with parents for concerns and special requests.
-Assist in the design of busing routes w/ maps & lists for various bus routes for all district transportation.
-Prepare transportation reimbursements for eligible students attending private schools.
-Be available by telephone from 6:00 AM for drivers/aides needing emergency subs on school days and at hours necessary to accommodate district needs.
-Inspect and fill out safety reports for all vehicles.
-Arrange/schedule repairs on vehicles. Schedule safety inspections four times a year as required by law.
-Perform other duties as assigned for efficient operation of the transportation office.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1.CDL Bus License.
2.Pupil Transportation Supervisor Certificate.
3.Previous experience.
4.Strong Interpersonal and communication skills.
5.Required criminal history and background check and proof of U.S citizenship or legal resident/immigrant status.
