  Advertising on School Buses

On January 6th, Governor Chris Christie signed into law
Assembly Bill 1637.  School districts may now choose to sell
advertising on the exterior of school buses they own or
lease. Half of any revenue generated by ads must be used to
defray fuel costs.  The State Board of Education is required
to establish rules regarding the permissible size of ads, and
to develop criteria for determining the age appropriateness
and suitability of the messages in the advertisements. School
districts will be able to set their own rates and approve ads to
be used on their buses, but ads pitching tobacco or alcohol
or promoting politics will not be permitted on school buses.
